About this journey
What the drive is actually like
Badr is 150 km southwest of Madinah, and the drive out through the volcanic plain is part of the experience. The valley itself is unexpectedly small; standing in it and realising how few metres separated the two armies is the thing people remember.
The visit covers the battlefield, the cemetery of the fourteen martyrs, the wells and the surrounding hills. Allow seven hours door to door including the drive and a meal stop.
